SEND AN EMAIL: Oppose SB13 - Stop Book Bans in Texas Public Schools

Send an email to your state legislators asking them to block Senate Bill 13 in Texas, a bill that makes it easier to ban books by creating a School Library Advisory Council (SLAC) that will:

  1. Take away local control by giving a small group of community members the power to decide what library materials all students can access.
  2. Meet only twice per school year to create a list of approved and rejected materials, creating a bottleneck in ordering and acquiring new books and resources.
  3. Subjectively decide which library materials are appropriate without adequate training or experience.

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has listed SB13 as one of his legislative priorities for this session.

This bill would take away individual control from students, parents, and taxpayers in your school district and give it to the five individuals in your district’s School Library Advisory Council.
