Join Us for a free screening of the award winning documentary, "The Librarians," hosted by Texans Defending Democracy and Texas Freedom to Read Project on December 15th at the Southside Preservation Hall! The movie starts at 7PM (doors open at 6:30PM) and will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A.
As battles over books and classrooms intensify across the country, librarians are helping communities see the larger forces driving these heated school and library board showdowns. They’re revealing how organized extremist campaigns are pushing censorship in ways that threaten not just our libraries, but the strength of our democracy. Even as they face harassment, threats, and laws designed to silence them, librarians continue to stand firm, defending everyone’s right to read — and, in doing so, defending our democracy itself. The Librarians is a powerful reminder of what’s at stake and why access to information matters now more than ever.

Following the screening, a panel discussion will feature three voices from the film: Audrey Wilson-Youngblood, a Texas librarian featured in the documentary; Chris Tackett, former Granbury ISD Trustee and founder of See It Name It Fight It; and Laney Hawes, co-founder and co-director of Texas Freedom to Read Project and a Keller ISD parent. They will be joined by Donya Craddock, co-owner of The Dock Bookshop.
The event is free to attend but we have limited seating and require that you RSVP to attend with a maximum of 6 tickets per RSVP. If you cannot make the event, we ask that you change your RSVP to reflect that so we can allow others to attend. If we "sell out," we will create a wait list.
If you go to RSVP and we have hit capacity, please come back and check the website frequently in the few days leading up to the film as we will send a reminder email on Friday December 11 to those who have RSVPd and we will ask them to cancel their reservations if their plans have changed and they can't make it.
If you still haven't been able to reserve a ticket, you can email [email protected] on Sunday 12/11 to be put on the waitlist.
