SEND AN EMAIL: Tell your elected leaders Texas students need access to books in their classrooms and libraries

Across Texas, classroom libraries are being closed, and book purchasing is at a standstill, as Districts attempt to implement and comply with Senate Bill 13. Give legislators & our governor a piece of your mind.

During the legislative session, freedom to read and library advocates warned legislators that Senate Bill 13 would have catastrophic effects on classroom and campus libraries. They didn’t listen. Now, classroom libraries are being restricted, and in some cases, closed entirely. Librarians and teachers are being told they can’t purchase any new books their students need until the purchase requests go through the multi-step, bureaucratic process required by the new law.

Access to choice books in classrooms is shown to improve student outcomes. Less access to books in classrooms and libraries will negatively impact student outcomes.

Share your concerns and outrage with Governor Abbott, Senator Angela Paxton (the Senate Bill 13 author), and your local representatives.

Feel free to personalize the email to include your own experiences and stories about how SB 13 is impacting classrooms and libraries in your community.
