Why ban books, when you can ban the entire library?

New Braunfels ISD announced secondary school libraries would be closed until further notice, under the direction of the school board. Take action now to restore library access in NBISD..

“What a win for our children!!!!” Imagine writing that about the closure of libraries for middle and high school students across an entire district. New Braunfels ISD libraries could be closed for months while the district reviews every book in its collections.

This came after pressure from extremist group Citizens Defending Freedom, which is going around Texas demanding districts remove 400 books, including Elie Wiesel’s Night, Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, & Richard Wright’s Native Son.

Citizens Defending Freedom got a boost when Libs of TikTok blasted the district for having books related to “racism” and “LGBTQ” themes.

Now kids in the district can’t go to the library at all, and district parents are pissed.

What can you do?

First: If you live in or near New Braunfels, the board will be holding a special meeting on its libraries on Thursday, 10/23 at 6PM. We need students, parents, and library advocates to show up and speak out for kids’ access to books! Find out how to address the New Braunfels ISD school board here

Second: Contact the NBISD Board, Superintendent and the elected Texas leaders responsible for Senate Bill 13 (the law being blamed for the library closures) to tell them to restore library access in NBISD now. Customize your email as you see fit.
