Will the Fort Bend ISD Board work to defend, or dismantle, the freedom to read on Wednesday?
The FBISD board will receive, consider and discuss information related to EF Local: Instructional Resources on June 5.
The FBISD School Board of Trustees will conduct a Special Called Workshop meeting on Wednesday, June 5 at 6PM, to receive, consider and discuss information related to EF Local: Instructional Resources (aka classroom and school library books). This Workshop is the result of the vote by the FBISD Board on April 8, to postpone further discussion and revision to the EF Local Policy until after a workshop could be conducted to gather more information to inform and guide policy making.

Recall, that in April, Moms for Liberty endorsed FBISD Trustees David Hamilton and Sonya Jones asked the FBISD school board to adopt their proposed EF Local policy overhaul that would entirely remove librarians from the formal reconsideration committee process, and would deputize the Board’s only direct employee- the superintendent (or their designee)- as the sole arbiter of what books stay and what books go.
Wednesday’s workshop will offer the FBISD community the first public opportunity to find out where the two newly elected trustees, Kristin Tassin and Adam Schoof, stand on library books and protecting (or dismantling) students’ freedom to read.
